First, you pull the pencil across the page so that the tip is pointing away from you and downward at the point where the pencil will draw a line. Then, you grip the pencil between your thumb and index finger.
The thumb grip, called the “wrist grip,” is the default grip for most pens, pencils, pencil erasers, and all other mechanical pencils. Some of the other basic pen grip ways include the three fingers, one hand grip, the five fingers, the three fingers with fingers pointing toward one’s fingertips, and the two fingers with fingers pointing toward the other’s fingertips. You can see this difference in the picture I showed above of the four basic pen grip methods.
You will find that the grip of every pen type will vary depending on how you hold it. If you hold your pen in an “artistic” or “serious” fashion, the grip will be something like a three fingers, one hand grip. If you are really careful with your grip and you’re not gripping the pen with your thumb and index finger, you will sometimes find other grip variations. Keep your grip consistent throughout the sentence.
You may find I have given the wrong grip options many times. But the point is not to show you how to hold a Pencil but to allow you to get an idea about how you should hold the pen. There are two distinct grip modes: a natural, and a mechanical. The natural grip means you hold the pencil in your hands as you would your phone, pencil case, or any other sharp object you hold. The mechanical grip means you grip the pencil on the back of your hand with your index finger and little thumb and then take the pencil out of your pocket with only one hand. The difference between the two can be seen in the grip of their thumb, the little finger, and the little finger of your dominant hand. It must be understood that the thumb grip is just the grip of the pen in our hands. With the tip pointed downward, the thumb grip is a natural grip, while the mechanical grip is just the grip of the pencil.
When you grip a pencil you will most often find yourself gripping the pencil a little bit farther than usual so that your thumb can reach around to use the stylus.
