For me, the piano was the first instrument that I learned.
I was probably just a kid, but I used to have my mom teach me about strings. I used to play all day, and whenever I went to my grandmother’s house or if I came across a guitar in the house that was new, then I would just use that keyboard.
The next guitar I played was a really nice guitar I got at my grandmother’s house and that was the one for the band. After that I got another one and that one was in the band. I would pick it up and play it all day.
After that I took out my saxophone again. I was playing for my grandmother too, the band.
Was the music you were composing for the band or was it written for your own music?
Yeah… yeah. The first time I put something together was for my own music because this was before the band existed. I would do songs in my bedroom, for my own music. My band was already in the process of being formed when I started experimenting with piano keys and things like that so that’s why the first instrument I got was the piano. Once I was a little bit older I got a saxophone too, and at that time I was a lot more experimental. I would write these pretty complicated stuff and then I would show them to my bandmate, Dave, and the rest of the band was like “Yeah, that’s amazing,” but that was before we had “Lucky”, and there was a lot of things on that label just because that was the first one I ever put out.
When people hear your music they like it. Do you have fans who you’re really proud of?

Yeah. I know this from my own experience, this is something I would say. If I was going somewhere or I was working out or anything, I would be pretty proud of myself… I’d be pretty self-deprecating when I was younger because I would tell everyone what I was doing and what I was thinking. But I would also tell people when I came back from a trip or when I was about to go home, that’s when I stopped feeling good. In order to get through, I needed to get out of my head. So if I was just going to sit in my kitchen and talk, or even if I was working out at the gym or something like that, I wouldn’t feel good because when I came back, I had
