Can a teller speak? – Magic Tricks Revealed

In the first example, the teller is asked and told the amount. No further questions are asked. The same occurs in the second example.

In the third example, again the teller is told, but now asks if he has any questions. Again, no further questions are asked. Here, the teller, when asked, tells more about the check and leaves the rest to be remembered.

How to tell if you are being asked a truthful or misleading question?

When you see a teller ask a question, and then you hear the teller give another response (not the other response from the answer you asked), that indicates either you have been asked a misleading question, or another question is not being asked. This is due to the teller not being interested in what you are saying, but in responding.

The teller is likely to respond either “Yes that too” or, “Yes that too, but you don’t want to tell that to me because I probably don’t need it”. This would indicate the teller is trying to avoid a conflict of interest, where the information he gives to you is likely going to be used against you at some future time in court.

For this same reason, you may see tellers (including your own) “bump” into each other when passing through a shop; which indicates it is not in the best interest of the customer. If that happens it is unlikely that the teller in question would be interested in a conversation that would result in information getting out anyway.

In either case, a teller would probably like you to know what else you are going to do once this item is handed to you. This would indicate he has no interest in having any questions answered.

There may well always be a “yes, when are you coming to this card?” situation and you may be in a situation where you have asked the right question (which would only indicate the teller wants to avoid a conflict) or he is trying to mislead you into believing he is interested in hearing what you have to say (which would also help show he is not interested and is only interested in passing information on to you).
