In this episode of How it’s Made, we’ll see what tricks come from different categories, including tricks that are used to do a lot in one simple action (the Magic Carpet trick), ones that are quick and easy (the Magic Carpet trick), ones that are hard and tedious (the “Swing Out the Window” trick), and a few that are weird and difficult to explain (the “Jittery Jittery” trick). We’ll also see how we can apply those tricks to create some great magic tricks of our own. In the process we’ll discover that magic is often more than just magic; it’s story and character.

A British businessman with long connections to the US has become one of the most prominent figures in Russia’s political and business circles.
Andrew Marshall is a former editor of a small UK-based magazine and has been described as Russia’s “top man” in Washington for a decade. He became known to the west through his role in promoting business ties between the Kremlin and the Republican Party before being named chairman of the board of a company co-owned by a top Putin ally who helped build the country’s vast space programme.
Now Marshall is working with a Moscow-based lobbying firm to try to establish his reputation in the US again. The firm, Mercury, claims to be based in the former Soviet Union and describes itself as a “global leader in public affairs”. Its website contains a photo of Marshall at an event with the former secretary of state, Hillary Clinton, in Moscow.
The firm recently published an article on its website suggesting that Obama’s decision to impose economic sanctions on Russia was a key factor behind his decision to back away from the White House. The article also claims that this decision was “the decisive factor behind the election of Donald Trump” – something the Trump administration said had nothing to do with its refusal to extradite Russian spy Sergei Mikhailov to the US.
