In one word: by “doing”. This means it is done by one who has a mentalist’s understanding of reality. For those who are not familiar with this term you can use a list of names:
Aristotle, Descartes, Leibniz, Hume, Kant, Strawson, Strawson & Dennett are mentalists.
Stirner, Spinoza, and Fichte are classical philosophers who are mentalists.
Buddhism, Hinduism, and Christianity are all traditional religions that are also mentalists.
All these names refer to an understanding of reality. I personally use mentalist definitions of reality, so I don’t have to explain myself.
How does a materialist do it? In two words: by “being”.
Materialism is a subset of the materialism of Descartes who claims (though he can’t prove it) that matter and energy are just a mixture of two different substances, fire and air.
A materialist has to reject all of Descartes’ metaphysical beliefs of the four cardinal truths: existence, identity, causality, and existence’s effects.
Materialism can be found in such things as: Einstein’s relativity theory, Newton’s laws of motion, and quantum theory.
This is not all the content of the materialist’s beliefs. He or she also has metaphysical beliefs such as the existence of a god, the existence of an afterlife, or the existence of an afterlife’s soul.
However, there are also non-mathematical, non-physical beliefs of the materialist of today which is the foundation of this discussion. These beliefs are often not metaphysical per se, but rather are related to philosophical ideas like the soul.
What this shows is that while the beliefs and beliefs of the metaphysicians and the materialists are related but distinct, the metaphysical beliefs of the mentalist are not. Indeed they are in much more intimate and intimate relation with each other.
So what exactly is wrong with metaphysics?
We will have to define what metaphysics is and what is not. I will define what an “objective” reality is, what a “conceptual” reality is, what is a “conceptual reality”, what an “objective” knowledge is, what a “contradiction” is, and what a “problem” is.
