How often do I need to change my Magic deck? Every game. The best way to learn how to play the game is to play a ton of Magic.
There’s a simple answer for the above question that is almost as simple as the answer to the previous question. Every turn means that you need to change your current deck. This is why the old rule of “I’ve only lost 1 game in the last 3 months” makes so much more sense. You can tell that you’re new to the game but know a lot. If you have only lost 1 game in the last 3 months, you can tell that you’re ready to get into the game. But if you’ve only lost 1 game in the last 3 months on average, you probably aren’t ready for that. There’s still a lot of information and experience to work through.
This is why I recommend starting with a deck that is fairly stable. If you start adding and changing cards as you go along, you can probably learn more about your deck in a month than you could in a year. You won the first Magic tournament in February, and you’re more than ready to take your first step into the world of Modern format.

How often do I need to change decks?
In general, you need to change decks only when you’re making key decisions such as:
How are I going to win?
What cards can I bring into play that will cause my opponent to lose?
What cards need to be on the sidelines and in my sideboard?
How many land drops should I have in my deck?
Can I find something that will help me win?
How can I ensure that my opponent has no answers for my deck?
What do I need to make sure I win?
These changes to decks require a lot of information. You need to evaluate your choices and think about which ones work best to win the game. If a change in play style is necessary, you need to be certain before you make your decision. That means a decision can’t go forward until you are sure what works best. At the beginning of a tournament you have to think about exactly what you need to change and how much information you need to gather to make these decisions.
