After the team’s friendly match against Mexico on June 1, reporters covering Solo asked her about her future in the sport, whether she planned on attending the 2016 Rio Olympics, what she’s doing after the World Cup and if she’ll watch U.S. women’s team coach Mike Sorber call a team meeting with head coach Jill Ellis.
The conversation between Solo and a TV crew member at the match also touched on Solo’s recent divorce and if the couple would be able to stay married in the future.
“I don’t look at it as my career or my playing career, it’s a long-term commitment as far as both of us being together,” Solo said. “I’ve said before that I think we can stay together because we want to make this happen, and it would be great if we could continue to stay together. We’re not in the middle of a divorce. It’s a divorce we’ve agreed to. It’s not a serious situation, so I don’t think it’s going to be an issue for us. We’ve talked to the legal team. It’s a complicated situation that we’re working through right now.”
