With just two wins to their name through the first seven games of the 2015 regular season, the New England Revolution are at this point in the season so far that it’s hard not to wonder about the future of this team, and even more questions about where they were in the preseason.
Since the beginning of 2016, three different coaches — Brian Schmetzer, Jay Heaps and Jim Curtin have been in charge of the Revolution. Each is very successful at their respective respective jobs, they have each established some good habits and have done a very nice job of integrating them into a team that is currently in rebuilding mode.
It hasn’t been without its struggles. This will go without saying but it’s worth reiterating, and it’s more than a little troubling for a man like Tom Soehn, who had a decent offseason and put together a few good performances this last month.
When he joined the Revolution he had a good track record for success in USL where he was a very successful player — at Duke, he was drafted eighth overall by Portland in 2014.
One reason for his early struggles with the Revolution was because of that very positive track record.
The season before that, he was with the Rochester Rhinos, a USL team at the time; a team so poor that the New York Daily News had even published an article about the team, the team was about to be traded.
While the majority of the problems for both Soehn and the Revolution last season was a very shaky offense, when they really started to see their team play they were struggling; especially on the defensive side of the ball.
Now, with the return of Schmetzer to the team, his teams have started to click. There is no doubt about it
