In which case you may feel a little guilty if you choose not to dance. But, if you know what is what, then this practice can give you the courage you need and then you won’t feel guilty about being a no.
To start (1) dance around a piece and look it over a few times – and if you must have a partner, ask that person if they’d be willing to be in the center of a circle with you. If you’re a little uncomfortable dancing, maybe just start spinning and look at that and be sure to take notes.
If you want to be a soloist, you’ll need to find a partner who can help you learn your routines. Make sure that they are willing to work with you, to share with you, and that they can provide you with feedback on technique, technique progression, and overall performance. But make sure that they are willing to go along if you’re not feeling up to what they expect.
If at any point you find that what you’re trying to do is not what the performer wants for you (I used to be a beginner, I now work in a dance company), then don’t worry. You’re still allowed to try something else. You just shouldn’t feel bad about the fact that other people are getting it more difficult or they are having problems with it.
