What do you do when a client asks you to dance the following song?
“I’ll have the guest dance the song for the first 10 seconds or so to give the dancer a chance to get up and move around. Once they are in the proper position we’ll start the show.”
Did he notice it, just before the commercial break? You can do this all the time. This is called the “pause” in the social dance example.
Do you know what happened in the show? I can remember. My client was watching from the VIP tent, when the DJ announced a DJ “tent break”, and then the DJ played an older song called “Riot on the Road”. When the DJ finished the break, my client turned to me and I looked at the room and I was a bit confused. I didn’t know what song the DJ was playing, and I had no clue as to where I was supposed to place my foot. (I was so focused on trying not to fall when the DJ announced the break that I barely noticed the DJ had played the next song, “Ain’t It a Shame”, the song we actually danced through.) However, when the commercial break started, all my thoughts turned to “Oh, they’re going to play something new? We have to get up and move!”, so I did. By the time the commercial ended, my client looked absolutely gorgeous.
If there are multiple songs, it might be better to go for the best. Sometimes the dance is not the key element; there will be other elements at play, such as the songs are danceable. You’ll also need to keep in mind that you’ll need to “do it right” to get the best results, so choose the right song. So try to go for the one that brings together all of the dance elements in a unique way to make the dancers dance. It doesn’t have to be one of the songs that is played before the commercial break. It just has to be something that works well together.
