To teach mathematicians the value of math
For teachers in math education, teaching math involves three main concepts that are difficult to put into words. For example, we can think about two things: the number that describes the size of a circle on the same scale as the surface of the earth and the number of pixels in an image:
The number of pixels on an image means how big a square it represents. The number of pixels on a circle means how many points it’s a circle.
The number of points on a circle in a two-dimensional image means how large the circle feels like in three dimensions when two people, including the photographer, hold it. The number of points on an image means how tall or short the square and circle feel.
These are the most fundamental concepts in math as taught to children. Children can be very good at understanding how they fit in our world, but the concept of perspective isn’t easily apparent.
Some people can’t seem to understand why this can be hard for them. What should they do? It’s easy to get overwhelmed learning basic mathematics. Teachers spend a lot of time explaining calculus or trigonometry, which is really easy to understand. The more difficult concept is how to make something that has a certain number of points look like a sphere.
It can’t be done with just math. You have to make a physical object, or figure out how people could hold it and put it in the proper place. How do we do this?
When we are in a classroom, we are supposed to learn the mathematical concepts:

Math skills are important for students because when people grow up in poverty their math skills can be hurt, and they don’t see they have a resource (like a teacher) who will teach them.
