There’s a lot of people paying top dollar for a full shot at a film. So we’d also say, ‘OK, that’s really interesting, why don’t we just get this shot of the whole thing, and then put it on YouTube?’ That’s actually why we do a lot of social media. We would spend all day on the phone just telling people why the world is changing the biggest, the biggest way possible and showing how big that change could be.
What kind of research went into the creation of The Hobbit? A lot of research. We have about four or five different versions of every line. Some are very close, some very off. We know every single little word out there and every little little expression in every single line, so for us, it’s really just researching and learning. I mean we actually were planning this movie just about two years ago. I was talking about a very funny little joke and how I felt it could kind of get a little out of control but I feel like it’s going to be very funny. I think they’re going to make it a lot more serious.
Are there any changes in the story plan for The Hobbit?
Well, the last movie, I’m actually sort of surprised by how much I went to the Internet to find out what the Internet was actually like before we even started shooting, that there were actual websites and things like that. I knew that there were some things that would be pretty important. And that was a fun challenge for me, because that’s something I really love to do is to bring people into things. And now I’d say it’s very exciting. We were also so excited when we talked about all these different possibilities and all the different ideas that people have that we basically started from scratch. If we weren’t making a lot of change and we could only do one thing, it would be totally different than now. So it’s pretty cool.
In the original script, Gandalf is in Mordor to rescue the ring from Bilbo, but there’s an implication in the movie’s final act that he’s leaving and his journey is over. Is that part of the intention of the movie?
Oh, absolutely! I mean, in real life, we all know, we’re all like, “Why did he do it?” And it really was something we felt he would probably have to come back with, because obviously his purpose in the movie is to find the ring. So that was a big part of
