I’m not sure. It has to be all the fun you can fit on the court, then it seems to be a good combination of both. You can be aggressive and get to the rim, but you can also slow it, and then you can put good touches to the basket from the other end.
You are known to play to the whistle. How do you respond to that?
It’s part of my game. I don’t want to get whistled, so I try to come in hard. And then I do the other thing: I am always looking for the open man. If he makes contact, I have to hit it straight at that time and I am always looking for a good look. It does not matter whether I am fouled or not. I’m happy if I’m fouled, because you can’t help but be surprised when things are done at the free-throw line. I am one of the best at getting those free throws, but I don’t like hitting them when they are there.
How does it feel as one of the most popular men to win a championship?
I was on the floor at the Final Four back in 1998, then it was Kobe and Shaq. Kobe has done this many times and I think this one is no different. It’s all about winning. When things are done well, you always have a good feel about the game. I’ve been in a few NBA Finals where the game was won pretty much on the first possession. This is a big deal for me and my team. When we can win like that, I will be happy.
What do you hope to gain as a teammate by playing with Michael Jordan’s legend?
I know I have to go out there and shoot and play to my best. That’s what you do. If I would come in and not think about those things, I would miss it. The game is like a lot of other sports. We just try to play, do our job, and do a good job.
