It is the shot at the end of the half in which the team has run out of time in its possession to score. In other words, when the team has run out of plays to advance its ball or if there is a clear-out at the other end of the court to gain a more advantageous position in the game. So what’s a half court shot? I’ve been playing for the last 4 years on and off. I’ve never seen or watched a half court shot. I’ve seen many a time I had to foul out in the half court because the play was running out of time or the possession was close. I will probably be calling half court shots during my playing days to my great great grandkids.
Back in my youth, I played for the University of Minnesota – a basketball powerhouse with a team that has gone on to have great success over the years. This team was led by Larry Johnson; the first 1st round pick in 1975; and a couple of 2nd and 3rd round picks over the next several decades. I remember him saying to me a couple years ago that he hoped there would be a 3rd team to make it into the tournament every year. The three 3-time All Star players on the team were Tim Hardaway, Michael Jordan and Hakeem Olajuwon and the 4th man was Karl Malone. So that was a nice accomplishment and I was pretty excited about that. And it was fun to watch the games.
One thing I remember in Minnesota was the excitement of watching the first game of the NCAA Tournament and how people from all over town came out to see the University of Minnesota’s game. It truly was a lot of fun. But more importantly that night was that the people could go buy tickets. They can buy them at the various stores around town at the box office, in the various book stores or online. People from all over who never had the opportunity to visit college basketball before had no problem finding tickets.
There wasn’t a lot of travel available to Minnesota fans other than their own automobiles. But that night, you can buy 2 ticket packages for a game. One package that includes 7 tickets to one of 2 teams and another for 5 games. For instance the Minnesota Northstar game at Minnesota that year had 9 tickets for the game. So if you would go to one of these boxes you could get a ticket to the home game and another package to the game in Minneapolis. And to go and buy 5 games for that price was a lot
