The trifecta (which comprises 5 of the 6 original flavors) is derived from the recipe of a banana split. The bananas are cut into two chunks. Then, the two halves of slices of bread are placed on top, so no more than half the number of slices of bread are used in the trifecta. The rest of the bread is spread on top. When the banana ends up in the middle of the bread, the result is called a banana split. Here are the recipe:
1-1/2 lb plain white bread
1 lb fresh green onion sliced
1/4 cup butter
2 cups chopped pecans
![]()
3 teaspoons lemon zest
2 teaspoons salt
1/2 teaspoon dried thyme
Peel and thinly slice the butter. Add the onions and the lemon zest. In one bowl, coat the bread slices with the butter, peel and chop the green onions and dice the thyme. In the other bowl, combine the bread, butter, sliced onions and lemon zest. Mix together. In another bowl, combine 1/2 cup butter with the pecans, salt, and dried thyme. Mix together. Fold in bread and add remaining 1/2 cup butter. Mix again (make sure to leave room for the bread slices). Once bread is done and mixed, place cut slices of bread in shallow platter. Spread with lemon butter. Top with sliced green onion and serve with salt and pepper. I added 3 teaspoons of garlic salt to the sliced onion, so that the slices will keep the garlic smell.
Is that what I eat everyday?
Yes. I’m just a casual, non-judging guy.
That’s good. What would a regular user do?
I would use the slices of bread as a sandwich. I like the combination of onion and garlic that I have. The butter, fresh garlic, and lemon zest do add an unexpected flavour but they are also light. I also like to add a sprinkle of parsley to the slices to add to the overall dish.
It is also a great recipe for a light snack or a dessert. I usually add slices of white or brown bread to some sort of cereal when I want quick and easy dinner. I have also heard of people making the banana bread and just eating it to go. But I just wish we were able to eat the whole banana bread instead when in the mood.
