There are three categories of horse racing: Class A, Class B, and Class C. The former is the simplest category, and contains more than 50 horses. It’s called Class A because there is no handicap. The Class B category consists of the likes of a horse with a lot of big muscles for short riders. Class C goes over to the ultra-strong and big-bodied for the fast horses, which are called Class C. There are nine groups of horses in each of the four groups: A1–A4, Class A2, Class B2, Class C, Class D, and Class E.
While there aren’t any rules in the Class D group that ban the use of stables (as there are in Class C), many horse racing fans who attend these events may see horse owners at stallions’ stables.
There are horses listed just like there are horses in a grid and some of these horses, when they are not in the grid, are in races that may have no handicap (see below).
There are many types of rules that each horse race class may have. The most common rules are the following [1, 2, 3]:
The racing line, which is the straightest line that can be raced without hitting each other
The length of the horse line (length is measured from the ground to the withers), typically 2½ to 3 feet, with some horses being shorter and some horses being longer
The length from the ground to the headstamp (horse’s official name) at the back of the horse
The speed of the horses within certain limits, such as 30 mph for one-and-a-half-mile races and 40 mph for a mile race
