The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) conducted its annual food safety inspection Tuesday on the two grocery stores in Brampton on the south Toronto side.
CFIA inspectors were sent to the stores for violations found at them, the Toronto Star reports.
The grocery stores, located in a single-storey structure about three kilometres east of Danforth and Eglinton Aves. as well as a strip mall in the city’s northwest, is owned by Shoppers Drug Mart. It is also the home to Costco Canada and a Wal-Mart Supercenter.
The store’s owner, Sareh Rehman, was not immediately available for comment Thursday. A spokesman for Shoppers Drug Mart wouldn’t comment on what went wrong.
CFIA also found food in the stores being handled with inadequate sanitizing procedures in some cases, the Star reports and that samples were used for testing at one store.
The two store inspected are both at the same address, 1034 Danforth Crescent.
The CFIA began inspecting Shoppers Drug Marts in 2010 after a spate of complaints over the past few years about the store’s safety practices.
It was also found to have improper cooking methods.
