Each class of horse races is a different type of racing, but also they’re all quite different from each other. At racing day, you have the class A, A2, A3 and a class B horse race. Then you have two hours of “practice” – which is where you can try different things, which is different from your race. And then there are race lengths. And there are different race start times. So the races are quite different from each other.
So what’s the race at the weekend, and then what’s the class A race?
There’s a class B race that comes later. But at the weekend you have the class A race, which also comes later.
There’s a lot of different ways in which you can race. That’s what it’s about. You have a race, you have class A, and then a race where the race can take from about two to three hours. So there’s a lot to choose from.
That’s why I think horse racing should be introduced to all levels, not just the racing clubs and the junior levels. You can’t just have races with different numbers of horses every two hours, or every 20 minutes, or every three hours, or for example, race 20 minutes. That’s not fair to the horses and not fair to the fans.
So how do you keep things fair?
Well, sometimes one horse can win a race. Sometimes two horses can win a race. The most important thing, though, is to run the race in the best way possible.
It’s good what our trainers can do. They run a race and have a number of horses on a good day. I think they do a good job every other day. I don’t think we need to do anything to improve on that. It’s part of competition to improve. You can’t have it too heavy.
How can that competition affect horse racing, anyway?
Well, obviously it’s good for the fans to have an extra element of excitement. There’s nothing wrong with that, for sure. But I do think there is an element of excitement. It’s hard to explain because it’s different for everyone.
