During World War II, the average weight for a cavalryman during WW2 was about 100 pounds (although some of that was by weight and by rank). Then a little over two years ago, during that same conflict, the average horse weight was reduced to 60 to 100 pounds. Today, the average is about 70 to 100 pounds. If you have a small horse, you can add an extra 100 pounds of weight to make it the same size. If your horse gets sick, there is a good chance she will die.
What happens if there is a shortage?
Some horses will be over-weight and get injured. Some will be overweight and just die. You probably can’t just pick the horses or cut up their bodies so you can make a dress for them. You need to put them into a good, safe place and feed them correctly. Most of the horses you see in shows these days are over-weight horses.
You might be able to get a surplus or even have a good deal on them. You may want to try selling them to a breeder.
