NBA horse challenge (or the NBA horse racing challenge) has been running as it’s its own race since 1992. The original idea came from sports broadcaster and former player John Buss who wanted to test the human physical and mental abilities that the horse could provide. The original challenge was for the horse to pass the ball around a ring by itself (which would require the horse to be tired). The challenge was never a big success since the competition wasn’t an easy challenge to get the best horses for a race. The race ended up being played on one of the first horse tracks in the US, and was also the first race to use the “track racing” format for a game: two horses are running back and forth by themselves on the track.
How many players are working on making NBA Horse Challenge an actual game?
The original league, the NBA, was working with their internal development team (the design team of the NBA) on making sure that the original idea was fully executed. When they realized that it needed to be a full game there was a lot of research and development that needed to be done to make it a reality for real NBA players. For an NBA game this is an extremely huge development, requiring a whole team of people to work on it simultaneously.
The current game is still in development and not many people are working on it, mainly because the team doesn’t want to break the series of the NBA. In an interview I had with someone from the development team, they said, “At this point, it’s just a game.” They also say that they aren’t sure how many players there will be in the final game, since there are no teams.
Why don’t there are more professional NBA players and teams involved?
There aren’t many professional NBA players or teams now, despite the presence of many top teams from all the major American leagues. The league was pretty dead in the 90s when the NBA began. It was hard to get a ticket to watch an NBA game back then and the owners of these big teams didn’t want to play the game, which caused a drop off in attendance. There is a lot of anger that the NBA wasn’t involved in the development of NBA Horse Challenge, so the game is just something that happens and it’s something that has a very small fan base.
The current game doesn’t have the same level of attention and support as the original NBA Horse Challenge, which was still a huge hit in sports broadcasting and played on television
