And which horse breed is the toughest? And what are the three most popular brands out there for running horses?

The answers: The three most popular horses out there for distance horses. And who is the toughest and smartest horse breed you’ve ever seen? And whose color is the toughest one?

To find out, we asked 14 of our horse athletes, trainers and experts (and they responded) to tell the truth about their favorite horses and what they like most about each. The list is far from complete, but here are our favorites for the three sports most commonly seen at the Triple Crown events.

1. The best horse for distance running?

Dakar (2), France

“Dakar is by far the best horse for distance running. It’s an excellent runner (1.2 seconds in the 100-meter dash) and has a long history in races as a trainer. It was used to break the previous world record for the 1500 meters, which he has done twice. He is very smart with a long history (3x French Olympiad gold), though he’s a little old compared to other horses” Chris Friesen, PRS New York

2. The smartest horse is:

Algiers 2, Tunisia

“Algiers 2, which raced in the 2004 Paris-Nice, has a head of white hair. His main trainer is Léo N’Diaye, who started a great French career (which I hope is only a few years behind Algiers 2’s).” Christopher Nardone, PRS New York

3. The toughest horses are:

Blackwood, Wales

Horse Racing Betting Odds & Form Guides from Oddschecker

“All in all, Blackwood has been a solid trainer and seems to be taking his sport for granted. His main thing is to be good to the best of his abilities by making his way in the right ways and making it to the next level. It’s a fantastic character of having an attitude that is the result of the hard work he’s put in and he’s never disappointed.” Robert “Doc” McSorley, U.S. Racing

4. The best saddle for running?

Tatahua (1)

“I prefer the new Tatahua which isn’t too flashy. The thing with a saddle is it’s part of the job, not the horse! We don’t need a fancy saddle like the other horses have, but I just like it.” Phil Blyth
