A few years ago, the Secretariat opened at a much-celebrated new spot on the city’s north side, next door to the downtown Convention Centre.
There’s some hope it will return but that was the project’s original intention.
There’s currently no plans for a revamp at the Secretariat and a source with the city says there has been “no real follow-through” from the project.

What was the last thing that you were seen doing there?
It’s difficult to say whether you left, came back, or if you even worked there.
The last sign I saw at the north end of the former Secretariat was the entrance to the downtown Convention Centre, at the corner of Queen and Jarvis Streets.
We left Secretariat about 14 years ago to get out, and I heard there was construction on the block where we used to work, the parcel where the parkade now sits.
At the time, I was working in the city’s archives at the Public Archives of Hamilton (which, coincidentally, is located on that part of the block) and the building I used to work at was called the Bedding Shed, the name given to the building for which I worked.
What do people remember about their first interaction with the building?
The first time I was here, I was sitting in the middle of this room, but the walls were still concrete, so to speak, to me. I was sitting there staring up at the ceiling.
I remember sitting there and having a very strong sense of déjà vu.
I remember looking through the windows and seeing someone on the roof and a huge structure of concrete hanging over the city, just north of the parkade.
And I remember, later on as I sat in that seat, it having a very calming feel — a great feeling.
I remember looking back at the building once people got inside and I remember the place being just as I remembered it.
How much is Secretariat worth to you, for you to work in?
We had the option to buy the entire building, and from that perspective, it made sense to use the entire building. It’s not cheap to renovate a building, especially when you’re talking
