The good question, if you are thinking about learning guitar as your career goal, the answer may just surprise you.
I’d say you have to be a very busy student. You need to be able to find time to practice each day, and you’ll need a dedicated group of people on the outside to help. You don’t usually get to choose this. It just happens.
If you have an extra semester or more of school in the off-season, that’s great.

On the flip side, don’t be surprised if a year goes by and you get some serious practice in, but then you find yourself in a tough spot to get better practice time. In one of my most recent classes, I was spending every waking hour just to learn, and I was still pretty bad! That kind of lack of confidence can take you a very long ways down the road toward a long-term career failure.
What would be your strategy to make sure that you are always on top of your studying?
Start small, with a set routine, an approach to music that makes you feel good about what you’re doing so that you can keep it up year after year.
I found this idea inspired from a quote by Steve Jobs called “Be careful what you wish for, because the only thing that turns money into weight is persistence and hard work.” It certainly applies to learning guitar.

I was really hoping for a shoe that would stand up in the water or whatever you wear them, and I really didn’t get that, but I wanted to post this before it was too late. The best tips I’ve found that would help with breaking in, is to be very careful when you’re out in the cold water, especially at night at my house because I’m not a fan of sun on legs.
