In one of the most popular segments of The Daily Show, former Obama speechwriter Ben Rhodes makes the case for “interpreting” the U.S. media “as an agent of the American imperial state” in a segment titled: “The Reality of the Media.”
Rhodes begins by stating that his belief that “the United States, which for almost two straight centuries has been an empire, has a lot of problems,” has resulted in “some major missteps in its propaganda.”

Though the United States has only occupied four percent of the planet and has “only” been at war with other countries for the last nine years, “we do have a lot of problems,” and Rhodes makes a point of not using that fact to claim that it’s a good thing. Rather, he claims that the U.S. has been too involved in international affairs (which, he claims, results in “people getting killed”), and that the “American national narrative is so tied up in these sort of Cold War tensions with Russia” that it’s difficult for the U.S. to see that “Russia is more of a security threat to the U.S. than it ever has been to our country.”

The Washington Redskins were without three starters on defense this preseason in rookie cornerback Josh Norman and outside linebacker Ryan Kerrigan and left tackle Trent Williams. Norman and Kerrigan, along with second-round pick Mychal Kendricks, appeared to get the start, but left tackle Trent Williams got the start at left defensive end on Tuesday afternoon.
Williams started in place of Williams, who injured his left foot in Monday’s preseason loss to the Houston Texans. Williams started seven straight games at left defensive end before suffering the injury.
The latest episode of The Simpsons featured a bit of controversy. As they were about to introduce George from The Walking Dead, a guy in the audience loudly complained: “They’re killing the old people!”
Well, Homer, I have news for you. There is a reason why every season the Simpsons introduce zombies in an episode, and that reason is not to make us all feel old for killing off so many people: there are no zombies in today’s world.
