What guitar chords should I learn first? – Learn Guitar Chords Pictures With Hands Raised

Well, as I’ve established above, picking a chord from any of the major or minor keys can be very valuable.

I believe, however, that playing chords from a progression is particularly useful when the purpose of the progression isn’t obvious. This means you need to start small — you should first learn to play the chord in isolation.

A great way to do this is by learning and experimenting with a chord progression in “chordmodes”:

This chart shows the chords you can use on a jazz guitar tune and some of the chord changes (for example, 7/4, C7, 4/4, 5/4, etc).

The major chords are written as C, G, A, B, and F. And minor chords are written as G, G#, A, D, E, and B.

These are, as a rule, chords in each of the major keys, with the exception of F# and Bb chords, which are in the key of Bbmaj7 or C minor, respectively.

For more information on all of the major jazz chords, including chord changes (for example, 7/5, ii V I, etc.), visit my chart of jazz chords.

Do you know that your scales can be played fast?

Yes! Scale-playing is a very important aspect of jazz. It turns music into an art form — and it can even be extremely fun!

This concept is demonstrated in jazz-fusion, which is essentially a genre of music that combines a jazz-funk fusion-blues-rock sound with guitar parts that are written for fast tempos.

Here are the top jazz scales, and their notes:

Am7: C sharp augmented B7: E flat minor C major Dbmaj7: C minor augmented Dm7: C minor D major E minor F#maj7: C minor F major Gmin7: C major G major E minor F minor G major

These scales, and the notes to them, are used frequently by rock-fusion guitarists looking to play fast.

I would suggest you learn and experiment with these scales, and then work your way down to blues, rock, R&B, country, and/or even some R&B chord progressions, depending on what you’re trying to play.

How do you keep your scales simple and easy to memorize?
