If you were a fan of a song like Queen’s “Bohemian Rhapsody”, you’d be the first person to start the song “Hey Jude” and if you were a musician you’d love the beat of “One Last Time”. Just think how many guitar players will be playing a song like that at the end of their career? This is an easy one. A good choice would be the instrumental version of Stravinsky’s “Winteris Coming”.
If you had to put a dollar value on musical tastes, what would it be and why?
No, wait that’s wrong. What if I asked you to write up a list of musical tastes, and give me your answer? “I have an enormous appreciation for jazz and the symphony, but I love a heavy metal song. It’s just what I am in the mood for. I’m not sure what you call that type of music…I’ll say it’s classical.” Sounds good (because I’m saying it out loud, I am speaking from experience).
The next question is where did the money go? What was the biggest mistake you’ve made?
I have plenty more to list but I think the biggest mistake I made was in becoming too comfortable. I am not sure how far I could have gone with my career if I had not learned how to navigate that new world of music. It is what is called “The Little Engine That Could”, and it is what people have to learn to succeed in this business.
What are you looking forward to the most and why?
The things I am looking forward to the most in a career is hearing new music and creating new music.
What other musical artists would you say are on the edge of your genre?
I can think of a few. I actually like to listen to this band “The Black Angels” from Sweden, they sound amazing and they have released some really great new music. Another album with this band I am looking forward to is coming this year; an album called “The Black Angels – An Epilogue”, it’s really good. But one of my favorite bands is this one, “The Allman Brothers Band”. These are guys who are just playing awesome live concerts and their music is just so awesome.
Who do you look up to the most, and why?
I am looking up to my brother, who is now my brother, and I like to listen to all of his music.
