Are older versions of Photoshop free? – Photo Editing Basics

No. There are now two popular versions of Photoshop available. Both are free to download but only the former can be used in all versions of Photoshop. These versions include:

Photoshop Elements, an updated version of the original Photoshop Elements software for Mac and Windows, including support for PSD files, multiple layers, layer masks and other features.

Photoshop CS, an updated version with added features and a number of UI and tool-specific improvements, including drag and drop, a better version of layer masks, support for PSD files and a tool to preview layer masks.

What’s the difference between Lightroom 4, Photoshop CC and Photoshop CS?

While Photoshop Elements, Photoshop CS and Lightroom 4 are all named after the same company — Photoshop — they can be thought of differently, at least for most Photoshop users. For instance, CS is a fully featured, user-friendly version of Photoshop, with support for all of the popular editing and painting tools from the popular CC software. While Lightroom is the last version of Photoshop, it’s also considered by many to be a fully featured alternative, but lacks support for many features.

For example, the Lightroom 4 application is based on Photoshop and doesn’t have any new features that aren’t available on CS. Photoshop CC, in contrast, is full-featured and offers extensive integration with third-party applications and the new Mac OS X Yosemite. Photoshop CC lets you drag and drop layers across many different media formats, and there are many new tools available, such as automatic resizing, layer masking and adjustment tools. It’s also more powerful and user-friendly, with support for many more file formats, as well as full integration with Adobe’s Creative Cloud cloud. In addition to these new features, CS is far more feature-rich and flexible than Lightroom 5.

What are the advantages of CS and Lightroom?

Both CS and Lightroom are better tools for Photoshop users. CS includes the most robust tools for editing photos. Some of these are available both in CS and Lightroom (e.g., resizing and cropping, cropping, adjusting text, layer masks, etc.). The difference is usually significant, but in this
