No. Even though it has a low learning curve, you need to put in a lot of practice to master a piece. The fact that you have been playing for 2 years and it can’t seem to make any headway means that you need to start putting in the hours. Your music education is not a free pass. It’s meant to nurture you, teach you, and improve your musical skills along the way.
Where should I go to school?
If you are in the US, attend a music school in your area, or go to a local conservatory. You’ll be most likely to learn the most from a reputable school, as they are the most knowledgeable in their areas of expertise.
Do you have to earn a music degree to be a musician?
At a certain level, yes. Once you’re comfortable with playing with instruments, you’ll need to study music theory and composition. The next step, however, is taking part in regular ensemble practice using traditional instruments and notation. At this point, it is important not just to practice the music, but also to learn to read, write, and play.
What is a teacher?
Truly a teacher is someone who understands what you need from them, as well as why. You’re not going to develop a great playing technique by listening to a teacher, but by actually learning with somebody you trust and know.
What should I study if I don’t have a teacher?
Music theory is key, and any instrument would be useful. If you know only how to play one instrument, it can be even more difficult to learn as you need a wider range of ideas to absorb information effectively.
If you already know how to play an instrument, it may be worthwhile to study music theory first. This will let you see how other musicians learn, and hopefully help make you confident enough to start learning other disciplines. In most cases, however, a beginner needs to learn how to hear a piece of music and create an idea of the basic elements.

Playing music should be fun, challenging, and enjoyable. It’s the best way to learn and grow, and you can do it with nothing but a sheet of music and some practice. Don’t rely on a textbook, a teacher, or “in-the-moment” ideas. Play whatever you’re comfortable with.
