My teacher started with a few lessons and now I don’t have to listen to a tutor every single afternoon!
I have a piano now, what have I learned? The first thing you’re taught is to move your fingers to the key of your choice. This is the most critical skill you need to pick up.
However, you can learn to play without learning from a piano. The goal is to play the songs with your eyes and fingers. It’s not very hard to play songs that are just a fraction of the length of a “traditional” scale. But you will need practice.
One of the most critical components to learning to play a scale by ear is learning the key signature. The key signature is the pattern of notes that one piano can make. It’s the basic outline of notes and notes that the player will play in the key. But there are lots of other things that will help you develop finger skills and the ability to hear notes with your eyes.
There are some great books you can use to practice:
1. How to Make Your Music Playing Your Way by Mike McKean
One of the most essential practices to master is learning the notes in key. You can learn the notes in key by playing an entire scale in each ear. But you will also love the idea that when you can hear the keys perfectly, you know the song is going to be in a certain key (with that one-finger flute style).
But the keys don’t have to be so big. This will show you the key signature, but that’s not enough. Your best option is to start practicing songs in your head.
Take the song that’s in your head (or the song that sounds the most like the melody) and move your brain around it with your fingers. This will help you learn the notes of that key at a faster rate than playing the song all over again – which is the most efficient method for acquiring that key signature.
2. Piano Lessons by John J. Kiesling
This is one of my favorite books (as well as one of the best books I’ve ever read). It’s a piano theory book with lots of practice ideas to help you learn the piano from the ground up. That alone will help bring your ear into the world of the piano.
But even if you have the basic piano down, there are a ton of ideas that I’ve left out, but still have some things you can practice with your
