He’d just like to go from one keyboard to the next, without needing to practice to become better at the instrument. We also had a friend who’d taught himself how to play the piano at a young age and his abilities are definitely much better than my son’s!

So here are tips for how to improve your son’s ability to master your instrument while remaining flexible and not having to memorize and memorize.

Tips for Making Your Son’s Piano Fun and Easy to Learn

1. Practice when he doesn’t want to learn it.

My son usually says, ‘I’m sick, I’m tired!’ or he says, ‘I really just wanted to play the piano’. Or he thinks, ‘I didn’t finish my first piano lessons, I want to practice.’

Do not expect him to play you a piano at the start and then suddenly stop at that point in time – you need to practice until you either play the piano or you’re completely comfortable enough so that you’re ready to play it when he plays it.

2. Be patient.

My son doesn’t always play his piano well until he learns to play it slowly – he often does it very quickly, and then is usually very disappointed when he doesn’t play. If he can be patient for a few minutes, try to do it for longer periods.

Once you’re comfortable with his piano playing, you can practice it in the normal way, but just be sure to stop a bit early so that it doesn’t get boring. For example, you can try taking him into the park instead of the piano, playing his favourite tunes while he’s walking, etc.

3. Don’t force your son to play your instrument when you want him to keep a certain pace.

If you want him to play piano fast and you use his playing instrument in that way, it won’t work!

Try to keep playing at a more controlled pace instead.

He’ll quickly become used to playing faster and quicker with his piano, and
