A man who allegedly killed two women and three men was sentenced to life in prison Wednesday.
The defendant, Michael Anthony Lassiter, 45, is now being held on $1 million bail in lieu of $100,000.
According to the Jefferson Parish District Attorney’s Office, Lassiter is the son of John Lassiter, the son-in-law of parish priest and retired priest John Rishel.
The women – all from the parish – were found dead at a home in the 600 block of Fisk Street in Metairie around 7:35 p.m. on September 9, 2016. It was reported that Rishel was asleep.
Investigators said that at the time of the shootings, there was an active shooter situation at a home in the 600 block of Dixie Lane.
A witness told police that she had heard two loud noises coming from the home. She later told investigators that she looked outside to find three women lying on the floor, the victims of multiple gunshot wounds.
The same night, an unidentified male was found lying in a pool of blood inside a home in the 1400 block of St. Claude Alley Boulevard. The witness said that the unidentified male had been shot multiple times and was bleeding from a gunshot wound to his torso. He was transported to a local hospital where he later died.
Investigators said they later found a third body inside a home on the 2400 block of Bordeaux Street. They discovered that the victim had been shot multiple times throughout his body.
The following day, police raided two homes in the 4000 block of Algiers Street where they found Lassiter and a woman. They found the women’s body inside a home and another body inside a house on the 2600 block of Algiers Street.
Investigators said Lassiter was inside both homes that night.
He was taken into custody around 10:12 a.m. on October 27 when authorities found the second body inside a home on the 1400 block of Fixton Street. They searched that home and found yet another body inside the same home.
The discovery of the third body came a little later into the investigation. The Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office responded to a tip that Lassiter was living in a home that was being used as living quarters. The deputies also discovered that Lassiter’s girlfriend was pregnant.
Detectives found Lassiter in his vehicle and he was arrested for the four murders.
