I still enjoy using piano. My first piano lessons were taught to me when I was about nine years old, I got it from a neighbor’s house on the same street as the music school. I had been playing when I was a child and had a friend who played a lot and we used to play while playing. I had a few friends who were also friends with this person. I would play it over the years.
How old were you when you heard about the Beatles.
I think I was about ten or 11 when I heard about The Beatles and that’s when I decided to take my piano lessons after school. I got a job as a clerk in a record store when I was 13 or 14 and I worked in the register and that’s where I heard ‘Round About Midnight’.
What was it like working with the Beatles? Was it just great for you, as an aspiring musician?
Well I don’t know what it was, I was just very excited to be working with them and they were very fun. They were fun to work with.
You were an aspiring piano player! How did you discover Chopin’s Piano Concerto No.1?
I just didn’t really care for any other pieces by him.
Did you just like this particular piece?
I didn’t like it but I just thought it sounded good to work on. My dad said it sounded like something I would play.
When we were kids, the only music we would listen to before school, and after school was the Beatles. Did you ever listen to The Beatles in school? Did you listen to the group when you were younger and just wanted to listen to all the songs?
I don’t hear the sound of them. My dad’s parents are from Sweden and they never liked rock and roll at all so I don’t know when I heard them but they didn’t do anything to me. I was about 17 when I came across these documents.
Why was that?
The documents revealed that they thought it was wrong to listen to music. They thought if there was one song that could affect young people there would have been much more songs about rock and roll. When I came upon this document, I was just fascinated and I thought that’s just crazy. I wanted to read all the articles on it.
