[C is played as in F#maj, D is not played. E is a slide. F is a pause. G is played on the beat to D, so a different part would not have been introduced.
I’m not interested in explaining the piano here, just showing you some examples of “soloing.”
[The “Q” is not really used, but it was added here to differentiate this type of solos from those in which a different instrument is used. The “Q” is actually used a lot as a cue to the piano being in tune during the solo. If it is not, you could just do a little exercise to see where it stops. In “soloing,” the note is played on the piano, but the piano is playing a different part of the phrase to help reinforce the idea. For example, here, the note isn’t actually playing “C” over and over. A great example of “soloing” is “C” being played in a very different fashion on the piano.)

Q: What is your favorite type of solos?
Answer: I’m not exactly sure. I guess it depends on the solo you want to do. In general, I like things that have some sort of rhythm and a lot of movement, but they are not super intricate. I like the more “hands-on” pieces. For me, one of the greatest solos of all time is Elvis Presley’s “Satisfaction.” This song was a major hit for him and his band and is one of my all time favorites. The solo is great. All the moving parts are great, but it is all in a couple of seconds. It sounds perfect and it’s fun, and it is just that easy to play, too.
Q: How many “solo practice” exercises do you do?
Answer: About 10-15 minutes of total solo practice. My favorite is “A Walk on the Wild Side.” I think this is the easiest solo of all the solos and there is a lot more freedom in “soloing” instead of sitting still
