You need the basics
There should be a basic knowledge of the instrument before you can start playing. If this does not exist you could invest in learning the basics first. There are many websites that can help you learn guitar, ukulele or bass. However, there are a lot of beginners who do not have this basic knowledge.
Here are some tips for beginners who are not at all confident in getting up to speed quickly:
1. Make sure that you have basic knowledge of chords. Most people who are beginner are not great at playing chords correctly.

You can also use your ears and find songs that can help you to get up to speed and learn to play chords. There are a lot of YouTube music videos that can help you to learn songs and chords.
2. Do some practice.
Learn some music with your own instruments and try different songs. If you would like to practice a song and become more confident make sure that you play it at home. Do it at a slower pace.
I find it good if I can practice a song just once or twice.
This helps you to become more relaxed and be able to concentrate on the part you are playing.
3. Practice as much as possible.
Practice the parts of the song over and over. Don’t do so much that you get bored of it. Don’t spend hours practicing the same notes over and over. Focus on learning different parts of chords and singing melodies together and try to do them faster than you are used to.
If you have no confidence in how to practice just try to get up to speed on your own.
