I’m a bass player, for goodness sake and I have to ask:
a) Do I like this type of instrument?
b) Do I like playing it?
c) Would I recommend it to a friend?
I like all the things about this instrument. The sound is great. The finish is beautiful and the buttons are nice and easy to hit with the thumb. But I have been playing a regular guitar for a long time and the quality of this one isn’t that good. I have a hard time hearing how it sounds to me. The best thing about this model is its easy to adjust to one’s skill level.
I’d like a bass sound but I don’t like having the fretboard be on top of my head all the time. I think the bridge might need a bigger plate for the sound to work. Also, I don’t like the fact that the frets that come with the instrument are not covered by the tuner but those are available separately. Also, I like the sound of the tuning bar on the left. I prefer the frets on the right for some tuning changes. Lastly, I don’t like the fact that the bridge is an octave lower than the neck (which could use a little adjusting). I wish it was larger. Also, I’d like to see a way of mounting the truss rod cover on a standard fretboard, such as on a guitar.
I’ve not heard enough people playing the uke, so I think my only concern here is that it has a “drummer-like” feel if you’re going for that sound. If you’re going to play the instrument in some sort of a “rock/folk style” way, then I’d be more interested in whether or not it might be better for that as opposed to a more “serious” playing style.
Anyway, I love these because they seem to have a similar feel and look to the ukulele but the ukulele feels much smaller than it actually is compared to my uke. If you know any other good quality uke on any site, please let me know.
As with any of these instruments, when using them at home or with your acoustic, consider carefully.
