How do you make easy puppets at home? – Ventriloquist Famous

When I started making and modeling molds I kept asking myself this question. I was looking for a way to do this without the need to have plastic molds on hand. After I came up with 3 things:

An easy to use template

Flexible filament that I could put straight into my molds

A flexible base to work from (plastic or metal)

I had 3 different molds ready for this project. The first piece I was going to use was a 3x5x1.5 inch plastic piece. I was able to get it just about free of plastic with a lot of patience.

The other two pieces came in plastic and a metal.

Here are all three pieces. First I used foam glue to stick on the plastic piece and then with the templates I could use a paint roller to smooth it out.

Once all the pieces were figured out I cut and drilled the holes for the rods. It took a while to get it cut flush with where I wanted to put the wires but the results were worth it. After this was cut I was then able to fit the pieces into my molds.

Then I made a simple base of paper plates. I had a few of these lying around I just used them to make a platform to stand on.

Here is the final product. I painted it yellow and let it dry and I think it turned out great. There will definitely be some modifications to it for some of you as the material I used didn’t hold up as well as I wanted it to, but that is part of the fun of making a molds from scratch.

The final product is pretty neat and I wanted to share it so I figured I would just share this tutorial with anyone else wishing to try making some!

Have you ever had trouble scaling a mold without it being too tall or short for your model? Why not try these simple projects?

If you have any questions then feel free to leave me a comment 🙂 Thank you so much for looking. I hope this helps 🙂
