When was ventriloquism invented? – Learn Ventriloquism Dvdfab Passkey Cinavia

The answer seems to be in the early 1800s:

VENTRILOQUISM.

VICTORY OF THE SOUNDS.

A group of Frenchmen, with a certain amount of knowledge, made an experiment, the object of which was to discover the most efficient means of producing noise. They went to the most remote quarters they could, of what I know nothing of the country, and got up a small bell. This they connected to two others so as to leave a distance of from fifty or a hundred feet between itself and any person whom it pleased to be heard. Next, they gave a noise, which they called sostenuto, and made their bell ring every moment. This was very effective, inasmuch as every person upon the streets appeared to pass by the bell, but still it was the least effectual means of making noise, and as the noise is not only continual, but is sometimes very audible, and if it continues long, it is of so great strength and velocity that it is sure to throw off the person who makes it when the noise ceases. I have never noticed any person passing by without perceiving that another of a certain age were within five or ten feet.

So much for ventriloquism.

It is interesting to note, that this early version of it was much more like the famous sound of the trumpet or harp than what we now think of as “vocal laughter.” The most plausible explanation of why they failed to find any one to hear it, is that they could not have, as I said, created a sufficiently loud sound to make it noticeable by persons a long way away, but this explanation seems somewhat weak and incomplete. They must have heard someone outside the bell, but it is very doubtful whether they could have heard someone inside the bell, or whether it was as simple as the sound made by a bell at a distance. I would have thought that if they had done this experiment and found that they “only” produced a sound that only a very small fraction of the population could hear and was extremely unpleasant, it would explain the absence of laughter and hence how these people were able to live and enjoy life at this time. Of course, this explanation does not apply to the silent versions of this “laughing” form of human interaction, but this gives us a glimpse into this early version of the laughing process.

In the late 1800’s, several other people, a gentleman and a woman, were experimenting with
