I can’t remember.
JF: I remember the answer very well. I said, “Papus” and then I stopped. So, that was the answer.
CB: What do you think of the “Papus” question? Because of the “Papus-Theology” I think it is very clear that it is an attempt to get around the “real question,” which is “why is God not all love to us,” or “why isn’t there a transcendent, self-transcendent love?”

JF: But you have to realize there are two kinds of religions. There is that kind of religion where the truth is the same to everybody. That is a sort of self-evident kind of truth that I suppose people are more likely to believe if they believe in the sort of things that I think might be called the supernatural, which has to do with things that really happened, such as angels, such as the rapture, such as the resurrection. I have a really vague idea about the fact that there is a kind of thing called the New Testament. It is not that I’m a fan of the New Testament, but I’m sympathetic to it; I think it might be the only true, definitive, accurate, trustworthy, and trustworthy kind of Bible; and so I like the idea of it. But I think it is more likely to me, I think, that the truth is that nobody really believed it. And so my kind of God is somebody who makes such absurd assertions — not so absurd as “Well, this person believed that” — but such as “You should not believe that. It’s an utter lie.” And that’s an absurd kind of God.
CB: I’m not sure you’d say that’s an absurd God. But I guess the other thing I like a lot about Christianity is that, when you realize that it is really a religion, it is a religion about the supernatural, and it’s about something other than the physical universe. I have to say, I just do wonder though whether it is a religion about God, or about the divine. Certainly in some ways I think it’s just about “Jesus is Jesus; don’t be such a fool,” and so forth: there’s very little about the divine. I don’t know if that’s a religion about the divine or about some kind of personal divine being, but it certainly is about the supernatural.
JF: Yes, it is. So
