Rufus King: The letter B?
Walt Disney: They put the two letters together and say “B-U-G-G-A-R.”
Kurt Braunohler: It’s a little hard to do it the other way around.
Walt Disney: (laughs) That’s one of the problems.
Bob Costas (voice): They don’t say the letter B.
Kurt Braunohler: They just say B-U-G-G-A-R.
Kurt Braunohler: It just looks funny. How could the characters say one other consonant?
Rufus King: But I’ve done that in about a hundred times.
Bob Costas (voice): We can’t say the letter B so it’s like I can’t speak.
Kurt Braunohler: My sister-in-law, she was in the audience and she said, “They said B-U-G-G-A-R!” I’m on the other end of the telephone.

John Littman: It was all right at the time. We didn’t know that this might be the beginning of an issue. I could hear it on the air. It was just funny. We just did it and put it on the air.
Kurt Braunohler: It was one of those things, this is just a piece of the big puzzle and then it goes. So it wasn’t like everyone was going, “What did we learn here? Look at this, this is what we’ve learned.” It was just fun. Then everyone learned, but not necessarily.
Kurt Braunohler: People would say, “Why not?”
Bob Costas: It was a little more serious than I expected.
Kurt Braunohler: It made me realize that I probably wasn’t going to work in this business and that I would have to start over. After my wife passed away, my brother and I were dealing with a lot of medical issues that we had to take care of as an individual. One of the things we did together was to make room and it was about what could we afford to do. So we did it without doing an inventory on it.
The next project for Disney was an animated movie. He wanted it about a dog, an old dog. We called it “Rugrats On Ice.”
