Riley: Yeah. I try to keep my mouth shut and just talk the way he speaks. I try to not go off on him as much, or yell at him. But, you know, he knows what he wants, and he gets what he wants. I’m not the kind of guy that can say anything without getting in trouble. So, I’m more of a listener than a performer.
Is that why you’re known as one of the funniest guys in the neighborhood?
Riley: Yeah, of the best funny guys in the neighborhood.
So, what about that time you came up with the “Dance” bit for one of your sketches?
Riley: Yeah, yeah. That was something I did after one of our show had been cut. There’s always this part of the sketch where I come in with the dance moves, and everybody says, “It’s not that funny.” So, I kind of came up with that bit that I could always do after everybody else left the sketch. I didn’t even have the idea of using dance moves before that. I just knew all the things for what I was doing for that sketch. I knew the things I wanted to do to do it.
So do you really think they’ll ever hear or accept a bit that’s more comedy than anything else?
Riley: Oh, definitely. You know, at first people were very excited about the dance bit, because they thought it was funny on its own. But, no matter how many times I tell them it’s not, they still go, “Oh yeah, I get it.” I’ve been very clear, even though, it’s a long time from now, people are going to be asking me about it.
You were nominated for another Emmy. How did it go?
Riley: Yeah, I felt pretty good about that. I didn’t get nominated for it, but I felt good that the other people did. But, like I said, I don’t want it to go either way, but it’s not like it was supposed to come up.
What are the chances of you doing something else with your voice? Is there any sense you’d want to do more acting?
Riley: I don’t know. I could go home and see what my next move is, but I’ve had so many different projects that I love and have done with a studio like L.A. Sketch
