Does levitation feel the same whether you’re flying, walking on a treadmill or seated on a chair? Do the sensations vary with body position? How is levitation performed? Is levitation useful or a delusion? We examine these questions in the present research. A simple model can help make sense of the experience, as well as providing clues as to its source.
Abstract
Objective To determine whether conscious experience can be described as an “illusion”. We tested whether conscious experience can be described as an illusion.
Methods Participants Twenty-one participants in the UK took part in this study. Participants were given a brief survey and asked to look at two photos of a woman (with a small penis and large breasts) and make a rating.
Results On average, the women with large breasts rated the photos with larger penises as more arousing than photo with smaller penises. Participants also reported increased eye contact with the woman with large breasts, suggesting increased bodily contact. The only significant factor was a large difference between the photos with men and women, with women rating the photo with men as more attractive than any other.
Conclusion The results provide strong evidence for unconscious, body-based processes being at play in the experience of levitation.
When Donald Trump signed the first of his proclamations of national security policy yesterday, the world took notice. In the absence of a second inaugural address from the President of the United States, one thing everyone could agree on was the unifying, muscular tone of the speech: Trump, who’s always been very public about his sexual prowess, called the press the “enemy of the American people,” and proclaimed he’d fight the “bigness of government.” He also said he’d put in place “a new strategy for defeating the enemies of our country” as he began a day of national security policy in which Trump and his national security team will deliver an official statement to the Congress at 9 a.m. on how they plan to “rebalance” the military. As it happens, it’s also an official strategy, according to the Pentagon, to “rebalance” the military by giving the military more funding and more control over what it does.
In practice, the strategy could mean giving more control to the U.S. military. But for many of his allies, the strategy is an expression of a much deeper and less overtly violent desire for U.S. control over the globe: a desire for a world the U.S. would like to
