Well, first, I think you have to focus on your partner and your partner must be open to your creativity and be able to express themselves and you both must be able to take turns. Also, the more you use this dance, I think the more you’ll be able to communicate and get along better between you, especially now that you have a lot more partners, so you really can’t over-do it.
So how many people do you think have done some version of this in the past?
I don’t have any really good statistics, there’s been some research that suggests 40-50 percent of people, so it’s probably better to say 2-10 percent. It’s really quite a bit of work. It’s not at all like a traditional couple dance, you know, I remember being blown away by this group dance that we did for the first time at our first event where you go through all the steps and then all of a sudden you’re dancing together and it’s very spontaneous, so it was a lot of fun. It was a lot of work, but I don’t mean to say that it’s impossible.
But some people do. Can you please tell us how you made a movie out of a dance that you made?
Yes, but it doesn’t really work in this context. So, for instance, we tried to make it with more of a dance, with more of a flow. This film, this dance has a lot of twists and turns, so it’s not exactly a traditional couples dance movie, but it’s pretty close to it so you can use that as a guide for your own personal dance moves. Like you see in this last scene I did, I’m doing a little twirl as well, and then we did a little step where you do like a half-twist which you just do.
So you want to try and make a couple dance movie?
Yeah, but I think a good film is a combination of like an old dance movie and what they could do in today’s dance scene. This, I suppose is still my favorite from the dance movies.
Do you think that the people who did it were doing what they should have been doing as a couple?
A lot of that is about the fact that it was their first dance, it didn’t really feel like a real couple dance, which is why it’s interesting—there was this general feeling of, like, “Oh wow, that
