The earliest known form of ballet dates back to about 1370. During the Middle Ages the German artisans were the first to develop the art of dance, but it was only in 1745 that the term ballet was coined by the French court dance expert Jean Fauchet. [2]
Why is ballet important?
The dance system used in ballet is a form of balance. It is designed to be practiced and learned as a complete ballet. The focus is the entire body from head to toe. With proper attention to form, a dancer is able to maintain proper balance throughout each move. The dancer is not pushed to the extreme in terms of motion; rather, the emphasis is on proper technique with each move.
