Do people not listen to me?” That could be a big question for a newcomer to the film business. But I’m a filmmaker. And at the end of the day I made a movie. It’s my life. No one is going to tell me what I can and cannot do.
This is something that I think a lot of filmmakers face who are going through a similar situation.

How do you get your story heard? And how do you get your story heard by somebody? You need to ask yourself: What’s going to draw people in?
“What should I be talking about?”
When we talk about a project, it’s almost like an advertising campaign — an ad that’s trying to get people to look at it. At what point can you really get people talking?
“What should I be talking about? What should I be talking about to get people to like my film?”
When you come to work every day, it’s like a product demo — just talk about what you do best. That allows people to really get to know you. When I started my first job in Hollywood, I used to be very secretive about what I did.
So the first few months, I was just getting ready to go out and get hired until I started putting footage online and meeting with distributors. And at a certain point, I came out with my first video, which was really about my upbringing and my history with religion. I guess I didn’t get much love that first video — but that’s when I really got to know people.
“I need to talk about an issue that I’m passionate about. When you’re making something for a niche audience, you’re usually going to fail because there’s not enough that people really care about — not just about a particular movie, but about the whole project.”
I think I actually went out of my way to talk about religion. I had a whole backstory because that’s something I felt was important. I felt like it was very important to me. I have to admit, it did get to the point where some people would start to believe that I was a bit more religious than I wanted to be. Some people were skeptical. It got to a point where somebody said, “Yeah, it might be nice to talk about that and the kind of story you want to tell, but is that really important?” So I kind of had to put that to rest and
