How do I get a job in movies? – Uncsa Screenwriting

In reality, the job of scriptwriter isn’t the easiest for most non-native English speakers. Even a seasoned actor will have to deal with some language challenges. Here are 5 tips to help you get a good script.

1. Know your scene numbers

There are four major elements to a thriller script – scene 1, scene 2, scene 3, and scene 4. Here are my notes on Scene 1, Scene 2, Scene 3, and Scene 4.

If you’re getting a script for the first time, do NOT go and read Scene 1 as this becomes a bit dry and boring. There’s a reason the thriller is called an American film, and the first act does not include plot and characterization. If you read Scene 1 and can’t find anything, make note of the words in each scene. If you want to read Scene 2 instead, read that first. If you want to read Scene 3 instead, read that last. If you want to read Scene 4, you need to read that last.

2. Start small, and then work your way up from there

The first thing to do is write a short one sentence description in each scene. A short description helps readers follow the story, and that helps you make a good first impression to your prospective employers. Some suggestions for the basics:

“I read, I was in an airplane crash. I came alive, and then my body was found by an airplane. It was a scene with my parents and siblings.”

Or “In a house, there is a man standing, looking a bit uncomfortable, sitting, he puts his right shoulder to a cabinet, and looks for something in the cabinet. He hears something coming, knocks, and looks down a bit too much.”

Keep in mind that a great description doesn’t have to spell out the plot as neatly as a synopsis. Readers will appreciate you giving them plot and character. Also, it helps to know the basic facts of the situation.

3. Keep it short and to the point

The point isn’t so much to make you sound professional, but to make you seem honest and realistic. When you write a short description, it helps you get the story across quickly and without too much exposition.

One example:

“The boy walks the woods home as he has for years, alone.”

“This boy, John, had spent his life living alone. He had no family, no friends, no church,
