Pam Breland: Yes, our executive producer, John DeLuca, is higher than our executive producer, Jason Bateman. He’s the showrunner. He’s in charge of making sure everybody gets it.
And, the second one is producer-director. He’s the director. He knows what the vision is. So, it’s like a movie making process.
So, Jason really knows the show is a great show, and he’s been great helping us. [We just needed] a good head. We went out to three different directors. When we hired them, one of them said “Jason, you’re my number-one choice.” He said “No, you’re my number-two choice?” And that’s what it is.
And, for episode seven, the showrunner, David Mandel, came into the studio to see me and I said “David, you’re number-one. You have to be number one.” And, the next episode, they cut that whole scene, and they went “I thought you wanted this. Because you’re my number-two choice, and I don’t wanna cut this.” Then, David said “Well, I want to do it, but I got a bad feeling.” And I said “David, I’m not gonna stop. Go right ahead.” And then, David said “I thought you wanted this.” And, he went right back. And so, this way, I’m really happy with the direction the show is going.

LIZ SHIRLEY, co-executive producer, “Breaking Bad, “A Better Tomorrow”: There’s four episodes. There’s eight episodes.
It’s a full season?
SHIRLEY: And we’re really focused on episode seven. It’s my second season. My first year, we made a decision to do 10 episodes. Our director and co-producer is at New Line. I know New Line, [so they wanted] more episodes.
What made you make it so quickly?
SHIRLEY: So, this is kind of like “Breaking Bad, ” which was the first time, I think the first time, that anyone’s ever done eight episodes. [A] show called “Lost,” they did four episodes in three weeks. So, you know, it was kind of a buzz of people saying, “Oh, we can do three in three weeks. We
