Hugely expensive. Hollywood is often quoted as offering $30,000-$40,000, but it’s almost certainly $100,000. And with production schedules that stretch over months or even years, it’s not always clear how much they actually get paid.
This means the studios have little problem filling their needs with cheap labor — and they also have plenty of room to add in extras. The actors who do make time for the extras often have to be put up in hotels as extras, or pay exorbitant rates for their own rooms.
For instance, in the late ’80s, The Addams Family did a feature film called Tailspin Alley, with several actors who did work. And in 1993 when The Addams Family was revived on television, some costumers found their paychecks slashed by 40% for doing some voice work.
Why?
Because Tailspin Alley was originally filmed at Universal Studios Hollywood.
On October 28th 2005, Universal Studios announced that Tailspin Alley would not be included in the upcoming revival of The Addams Family. They released a statement that said that “The Addams Family was written in 1972, and they have a contract with Universal Studios to make movies in all their characters at all times. The only way to save their films for later editions of an expanded series is to do another movie.” So far so good, but the fact is Universal Studios never made another episode of The Addams Family. And since that time, Universal Studios has had a contract with Fox to make all of their movies, and they have yet to bring a new movie back to the screens of its customers.
The problem is that Fox continues to want to get into the video game games business by making new add-on games to The Addams. At the time of its initial television series, The Addams Family became the most popular show on television, thanks partly to the popularity with teens and children. But by the time the new series premiered, the ratings had declined, due to competition and, apparently, changes made to the show. It seems the series’ ratings fell far less dramatically than were the ratings of the other shows on television that year.
The Addams Family was eventually renewed for a second season, with the third season being considered for 2015, but it fell flat on its face.

On the brighter side, there are several other episodes that were adapted into some sort of video games by Universal Studios:
