I was very fortunate to receive the opportunity to play in a world championship game. The game is so fast-paced, with so many chances to score, and I could not have dreamed of playing even faster once the scoring opportunity was given to me. That is, without even thinking about it. It was like a blessing from God: It kept my focus on my job at a fast tempo while allowing me the opportunity to play at a very high level.
One of the best things about this is that you can play with a big time rival in Boston – you guys are on great terms!
They are great rivals. They have been the two best teams in the league since 2005-2006. The league as a whole, the people here in Boston, the people everywhere want the Celtics to compete because we have the best players in the league. It is like having two best football teams in the world. One will have the team that beats the other one for every game, and in the middle of two bad teams you have the best teams in the world fighting.
Did you make a decision in Boston, or do you have that choice in your mind?
I have an offer on the table. I will not make a decision this season at this point in time. I am not sure if all the teams will get involved in the NBA Draft. We will play the best teams and we will play against the best players from all over the world. We have won two international competitions. We went 6-2 for FIBA Americas and 6-0 for EuroBasket 2011. Both finals were against teams from Europe. We will show teams from the world there is no limit to what an individual and a team can achieve on a global level, so I am excited to see what kind of team we have in Boston going forwards.
Any parting thoughts?
We have so much to prove this season to show everyone they are a contender. We have a chance to show other teams that our team is legitimate and deserving. We do play in front of a great crowd. It is an amazing city, it is our first season for the Celtics in Boston. We know that this city welcomes us and will support us and give us all the love we need because we are coming into this tournament with the championship in our grasp.
