As we already see there are 3 chords in the major scale, each one having a few different names. The first four chords of the major scale all have the name of the first finger, and while I don’t think either of it would have anything in common with ‘V’ on the piano, the second four chords have the name of the second finger! So how can we figure out the first and second finger name of these three chords? There are two simple ways to do it. The first way is to study the intervals between the two fingers of each hand. You can do this by playing the note on the finger of one hand and then playing the note on the finger of the other hand, then keeping the first one’s position. For example, if you play the first finger on the first fret of the guitar, you should note the note in the first position. On the second fret, the note is on the second position. If you were playing the notes on the two fingers, you would change the hand position to make the interval in between the 1st and the 2nd finger. So for example, if the first finger on the first fret is the 1st fret, the 1st note should be on the 1st fret, the 2nd note on the 2nd fret, etc.
The other way to find the fret of an interval is to play the chord on both the 1st and the 2nd finger. For example; if you play the first finger on the 1st fret of the guitar, the 1st note should be on the second fret and the 2nd note on the 3rd. If you were playing the notes on the two fingers, your finger would be playing the third. By combining the 1st and 2nd finger intervals, you can get the correct note.
If you don’t want to study intervals, another method is to study the scale lengths. You can find this by playing all the intervals above the 1st finger and then all the intervals above the second finger. Try to find all the notes below the second finger. The length of the interval between the first and the second finger determines the scale length. For example, if you have the 1st fret finger on the 1st fret of the guitar, and the 2nd fret finger on the 2nd fret, you would play the last note on the 1st fret, and the last note on the 2nd fret.
