No, gimp doesn’t have the same effects on images, and its built-in editing tools don’t offer the same tools as Photoshop’s.
I’m glad I finally found Gimp because I needed a tool that gave me the ability to transform an image into something else. Photoshop does this much quicker and easier, and in addition it’s free.
What are you using to create this?
I used Lightroom, Adobe Lightroom CC, and Photoshop CS6. I then combined them using Gimp Photoshop plugin – a good option to learn how to use the tool.

I’ve been using Adobe Photoshop brushes – brushes from Photoshop’s built-in brushes plugin. I also used some Photoshop filters for the image.
You have an amazing portfolio – what other inspiration does your work inspire?
I created my portfolio and website for a while. I was inspired by a number of artists who did a lot with their art – including some that had a very unique style.
What do you look up to?
My inspiration for my portfolio stems from a number of designers and illustrators from the 70s and 80s. One of these artists, Steve McQueen, had a very unique style and approach to his work.
What are things that you love to draw?
It’s pretty hard to find examples of my work, so this is the best and easiest way to find something I love drawing or painting. It’s something that interests me for a reason, and when I do find something interesting I put together a portfolio from it.
Anything you can share with the readers to inspire them to design their own portfolio?
Most images on the web that have been created by others come off as a simple imitation. You need to make that your own. It could be as simple as a photograph of yourself or a set of images if you have an idea that you want to turn into a portfolio.
How do you stay inspired?
There’s no better tool to keep the muse in your art department than an artist. I find it easier to imagine a piece I would like to create and I draw the image or model before I ever start the process.
If you had to give the life lesson to someone, what would it be?
Designing is only half the artistry. If you want to become a great painter you should also be a good designer as well.
